Gene Ween (nee Aaron Freeman), one-half of the longstanding alt-rock institution known as Ween, is feeling fine these days, though it was touch-and-go just a few months ago for the 39-year-old Pennsylvania native.
Embarking on the inaugural tour with his new project, imaginatively called the Gene Ween Band, Ween came down with pneumonia in mid-December, making necessary the cancellation of a number of scheduled performances.
“It came from nowhere, and it was horrible,” Ween says during a recent interview from his Keystone State “studio in the woods.” “I actually spent a few days in the hospital, but now I’m fully recovered – I’m not sure how it happened. It could have been from exhaustion because I hadn’t played in a while. Let me tell you, it was awful.” (more…)
