Umphrey’s McGee in Atlanta (2/19/2009 – 2/20/09)
We caught UM’s shows in Atlanta on Thursday and Friday and I’ve gotta say, they didn’t disappoint and exceeded our insanely high expectations. The material covered was a diverse collection of fan favorites, jaw-dropping improvisation and an intense focus was placed on their newest release Mantis. The musical terrain covered, coupled with the perfectly balanced audio mix and lighting design of new lighting director, Jeff Waful, was top notch and showcase a professionalism fitting of a band of Umphrey’s creativity and talent. The future for this sextet from Chicago via South Bend is a bright and burns with a white hot intensity. There doesn’t seem to be much that this band can’t achieve. (All photos by Derek Martinez)
On a side note, we will be posting photos throughout the next few weeks of this leg of UM’s southern tour, taken by new friend, Derek Martinez.
