Happy Birthday — John Entwistle
The Who’s innovative bassist would have turned 65 today. Here he is performing “Boris The Spider” in 1982 with The Who.
They Said What??
“I am the best Keith Moon-type drummer in the world.”
-Keith Moon
The Who — “5:15″
From The Who’s legendary 1973 concept album, Quadrophenia. And hey, look at the date. It’s 5/15! Coincidence? I think not. Here’s Wiki with some info on the song within the context of the album:
This song recited Jimmy’s train journey down to Brighton, sandwiched between two city gents and notable for the rather absurd number of amphetamines he consumes in order to pass the time. He goes through a not entirely pleasant series of ups and downs as he contemplates the gaudier side of life as a teenager.
On a side note, how incredible is Phish’s version of this song from 10/31/95? That is one cover that they just absoultely nailed.
Funny Friday — Steve Martin & Keith Moon

35 Years Ago Today…
Every rock musician/fan’s dream came true on this night in 1973 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Keith Moon was playing from his drum riser, when the effects of his horse tranquilizer laced cocktail kicked in. Moon promptly passed out cold, leaving the band drummer-less. Rather than cancel the show, The Who soldiered on with a replacement drummer. It just so happens that in the audience there was a drummer in the audience, Scott Halpin, whose friends volunteered his services. Actually he hadn’t played drums in over a year and was a bit rusty. The band accepted and blasted through three songs before Moon joined them back on stage. Interviewed by Rolling Stone, Halpin admired The Who’s stamina, admitting “I only played three numbers and I was dead.”
Here’s Halpin playing with The Who:
Phish — Happy Halloween (Musical Costume Years: 1994, 1995, 1996 & 1998)
Does anyone miss the good old days when we could bank on Phish playing a Halloween show, displaying their chops and their take on a legendary album? Well, I do. Maybe ’09 will bring us another musical costume. Time will tell and we shall see. If they do play another Halloween show, what album would you like to see them cover? Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti? Frank Zappa’s Joe’s Garage? Neutral Milk Hotel’s In An Aeroplane Over The Sea? Leave us a comment with your desired album.
We’ve decided to put together some videos of Halloween’s past. Here they are in 1994 playing “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”:
Next up is “Born Under Punches” from 1996′s show in Atlanta where the band covered The Talking Heads’ Remain In Light.
Here’s “Lonesome Cowboy Bill” from 1998′s performance of the Velvet Underground’s Loaded:

The Who — Keith Moon Passes Out, Replaced By Fan…
Every rock musician/fan’s dream came true one night in 1973 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Eric Clapton — Eyesight To The Blind
An old Sonny Boy WIlliamson song Eric recorded for The Who’s 1975 film, Tommy. Check out Eric as a preacher at a church that worships Marilyn Monroe:
And here’s a clip of Pete and Eric from the early 90′s:
