We have a winner!

Thanks to all who entered to win tickets to see Trey Anastasio at the Tabernacle in Atlanta.  Lots of great entries, but of course there can only be one winner…and that is Scott Brown.  His favorite Trey Band show memory is below.  Scott, enjoy the show!

After reading about this contest I went back and re-visited the many Trey solo shows that I attended over the years and in my mind there is a clear winner…….

This show stands out for many reasons. First off the ticket gods smiled on us for this show and we got 4 seats together 2nd row center in an already intimate venue.  This was early in the Trey Band years so many of these songs felt fresh and exciting.  It was during the first hiatus so it was an extra special treat to see Mike Gordon back on stage with Trey.  The bands entrance brought and unprecedented energy to the room before the first note was played and every thing was played well and with purpose unlike some of the later Trey band shows (i.e the second set of the Tabernacle show 11/1/02 where Trey “played” 2 songs and “conducted” the crowd for 30 min…. I’ve been excited since Trey announced this tour but having recently moved to Charleston from Atlanta I haven’t been able to pull the trigger on tickets yet but I really want to be there.  Will the ticket gods smile on again?????

Trey Anastasio Band — “Don’t Need Nothin’ But A Good Time”

Hidden Track:

As Trey Anastasio and Classic TAB move on from the Northeast leg of their tour onto the Midwest and South, they have left a trail of happy faces in their path. The “anything can happen at anytime” M.O. that Phish lives and dies with is nowhere to be found on TAB Tour, alleviating all the pressure that comes with Phish shows for Trey Anastasio. Big Red and his bandmates are clearly having fun and the happiness is contagious. (continue…)

Two days before Doctor Jones was supposed to play at this private party our guitar player Casey Grant’s father-in-law died suddenly.
We knew our college friend Trey was going to be at the party and asked if he would play a few songs with us to fill the guitar slot. Trey showed up and encouraged everyone to try mezcal shots with listerine cool mint gel tabs on their tongues. Trey dubbed the new drink sensation a “chrysalis”. The mezcal combined with some excellent brownies inspired the interpration of the music.
Trey had never heard the original tunes that we ran through that night, and probably had not played many of the cover tunes in years. The show is loose but provides several moments of great jamming. It is an interesting historical document at any rate.

Review: Trey @ Carnegie (Download Link)

treycarnegiehall-5464-265x400Here’s a review of  Trey’s weekend performance at Carnegie Hall.

Most baseball players dream of playing in the World Series, most actors dream of winning an academy award and most musicians dream of performing their compositions at Carnegie Hall with the New York Philharmonic. Last night, Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio got to fulfill that dream when he took the stage with the most legendary orchestra in the world at arguably the most famous venue in the world and he made the most of the opportunity. Trey in Baltimore

trey09Hidden Track:

Phish guitarist and singer Trey Anastasio reached deep into his bag of tricks for his performance tonight with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Charm City. Among the Phish classics Anastasio performed with the ensemble was If I Could – a song Phish hasn’t played in nearly nine years. An emotional highlight came when Water In The Sky was played in memory of Trey’s sister, Kristy Manning, and dedicated to her son. (more…)

Phish’s floppy-haired frontman is sporting a sharp, navy blue suit, which can only mean one of two things. And he isn’t in a courtroom, so he must be on Capitol Hill, lobbying. (more…)

Trey Anastasio — Time Turns Elastic hits streets 5/12

23305822-23305825-slargeJambands.com:

Time Turns Elastic the orchestral piece composed by Trey Anastasio and Don Hart has been recorded in a studio setting for a May 12 release. Anastasio and The Northwest Sinfonia appear on the recording, which was conducted by David Sabee. The piece debuted in September 2008, with a performance by Anastasio and Orchestra Nashville at the Ryman Auditorium. In a press release, Anastasio describes the origins of the piece, noting, “I was living in upstate New York when I started writing this little tune that just kept growing. I initially thought it would be a Phish song, but after I sent a demo of it to Don, it just grew organically into an orchestral piece.” On Thursday May 21, Anastasio and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marin Alsop, will perform the composition along with Phish songs and Anastasio solo material. For a bit more on the origins of Time Turns Elastic, check out our September interview with Don Hart.

Trey to join Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (5/21/09)

bso4Trey Anastasio will join Music Director Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for orchestrations of classic Phish tunes and the East Coast premiere of his composition Time Turns Elastic at 8p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Tickets will be available through a real time pre sale beginning Thursday, February 19th at 5pm (EST) and ending Friday, February 27th at Noon (EST) at http://treytickets.rlc.net Tickets go on-sale to the public Saturday, February 28th at noon (EST). Audio taping tickets will not be sold for this event.

The first half of the program features classic Phish songs and solo Trey compositions, while second half of the program features the East Coast premiere of Time Turns Elastic, co-composed by Anastasio and long-time collaborator Don Hart. Time Turns Elastic is a groundbreaking work for vocals, electric guitar and orchestra with long, orchestral passages intertwined with epic guitar lines and vocals in the vein of such classic Anastasio compositions as The Divided Sky, Guyute and Fluffhead. With Anastasio’s electric guitar at the forefront, Time Turns Elastic pushes the limits of orchestral music and delivers a complete articulation of the Baltimore Symphony’s mission to present new musical collaborations that challenge and inspire audiences. “Most of the time when people use an electric instrument with an orchestra, they destroy the capability to blend,” notes Anastasio. “Our approach is to handle it as any other solo instrument. I play at the volume of say, an oboe, so Don can orchestrate around the guitar.”
