Railroad Earth announces new tour, album, bassist and songs

We hope to see one of Kelly’s favorites, Railroad Earth, when they come through Atlanta in April. Are you planning to make it to any of their shows?

Here’s the latest from their camp:

After celebrating the end of their first decade together with a massive fan release, Railroad Earth Retrospective: 2001-2009, the tightly-woven unit of Railroad Earth is embarking on a new chapter in their musical journey. The rootsy Americana ensemble will hit the stage again on their first tour of 2010 with a new bass player, a new record deal (One Haven Music), and a new album in the can (to be released late Summer 2010) for what is expected to be a great year for the revitalized Railroad Earth. With Spring tour dates mostly focused on the Eastern Seaboard, fans can expect an newly energized live show with surprises around every bend.

moe.down 11 announced.

From moe.org:

After a successful and enjoyable decade in Turin, moe.down opts for a change of scenery: Gelston Castle Estate in Mohawk, NY. Or perhaps we should say…moe.hawk?
First Roosevelt, then Rostropovich. Now moe. will bring crowds over Labor Day weekend to the 330-acre Central New York site, which boasts breath-taking views of the Mohawk Valley and an impressive history. Majestic ruins of the 1833 castle still stand, along with the 8,300 square foot mansion built by cellist and humanitarian Mstislav “Maestro” Rostropovich, which now operates on windpower. Often called “Nature’s Palace”, the estate was once the place where the Nation’s most historic environmental advocate, President Theodore Roosevelt, spent his childhood summers, and is now the home of Green Leadership Institute. It is 20 minutes from Utica, NY. (more..)

Conan goes on the road

It was just announced that Conan will being his “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour” on April 12 and stop in more than 30 cities during the two-month tour (click here for the full list of stops, which includes Bonnaroo).  He, as well as sidekick Andy Richter and members of his former “Tonight Show” band, will offer “a night of music, comedy, hugging, and the occasional awkward silence,” promoters promise.  Click here for more info.

We hope a late-night talk show will follow…

The Doors — “When You’re Strange”

If you’re unaware, Jimbo & Co. Inc. are releasing a new movie based on the iconic front man of the 60′s rock band. Organist and band mouthpiece, Ray Manzarek has called the new documentary the anti-Ollie Stone Doors movie. Old Ray wasn’t too thrilled about Oliver’s take on Mr. Mojo and his comrades. Check out the trailer here:

Here’s the band pre-super stardom and before receiving the spoils of mainstream success performing “The End” for Canadian television in ’67. Jim’s wearing his customary black “leathers” here that he would eventually don when the band performed on their infamous Ed Sullivan performance. There’s an oft repeated rumor that Elvis Presley watched The Doors on Sullivan’s performance and would emulate his attire in his career changing ’68 comeback performance shortly after.

In another footnote, Jim Morrison stated in his original Elektra questionnaire that his favorite male singers were Elvis and Sinatra.

Grateful Dead — Copenhagen, Denmark (4/14/72)

Way the hell back when I was in high school, the Grateful Dead would always treat Atlanta to a spring run. This was when the band was getting pretty near the end, but were certainly still able to play soul shaking sets. Today we have a mid-70′s, spring-ish day in Atlanta that’s perfect for some good ole Grateful Dead. Here’s a classic show from ’72.
