The Avett Brothers in NYC
Nice piece written here by Ryan Dembinsky for Jambase.com on the Avett’s intimate performance in celebration of the release of their new album, I and Love and You.
An interesting phenomenon occurs when a band breaks through and outgrows its loyal fan base. The rare opportunity arises where they try their damndest to play an intimate show that mimics their early days, yet pre-show conversations tend towards a comparison of who caught the band at the smallest venue, which fans are there for the first time, and how much better it would be if the crowd was all true fans. Bear Creek Music & Art Festival
The Bear Creek Music and Art Festival will take place at the amazing Spirit Of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL, November 13-15. I attended a festival at the park in April of 2003 and must say it was the most picturesque venue I’ve attended in the Southeast. The campsites are excellent and the site brims with good vibes. This year Bear Creek will offer Galactic (2x), Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe (2x), Dumpstaphunk (2x), Lettuce (2x), Perpetual Groove, Steve Kimock, the Benenvento/Russo Duo, Robert Walter’s 20th Congress, Garage-a-Trois, The New Mastersounds (2x), The Heavy Pets, The Ryan Montbleau Band (2x), Lotus, Toubab Krewe, etc., etc. Artists at large will be: Bernie Worrell, Skerik, Mike Dillon, Kofi Burbridge and many more.
Needless to say, this festival is chock full of talent and one not to be missed. This will be an epic assemblage of musicians, visual artists and good people. We are truly looking forward to attending this year and would love to see you there too!

Kuroda interviewed by Waful
Cool little interview here with Chris Kuroda (Phish lighting director) by Jeff Waful (Umphrey’s McGee/moe. lighting director) from our friends at Jambands.com:
An electrifying cheer drowns out the triumphant coda of “Fluffhead” as fractured flashes of white light divide the ominous night sky. What is most striking is that when asked moments later about the spectacular finger lightning that accompanied his work, Phish lighting designer Chris Kuroda says, “I didn’t notice.” This is perhaps the essence of any great artist: being so focused on his craft that the outside world ceases to exist. Miles Davis — Paris, FR (11/3/69)
My favorite period of Miles is his electric period, in which he merged acid rock and funk. This show captures Miles at one of his many peaks in his incredible career.

It’s About That Time
43 years ago today…
Cream was joined on-stage by Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix had only been in London for a week, yet was already creating a storm in the local music scene. In double-time, Hendrix tore through a version of “Killing Floor”. His dazzling play and guitar wizardry caused Clapton to exit the stage and ask Hendrix’s manager (Chas Chandler), “is he always this f@$%ing good?”.
