Scorsese to direct Sinatra biopic
Deadline Hollywood:
He was an enigmatic legend, and it looks as if the picture that just came together will do that justice. I’ve just learned that Universal has acquired this project based on the life of Frank Sinatra from Mandalay Pictures. Phil Alden Robinson is writing the screenplay, and Marty Scorsese will direct as well as produce through his Sikelia Productions. The Sinatra family gave its permission, which is not easy to get, and youngest daughter Tina Sinatra will be an executive producer along with Robinson and Garry LeMel, the former president of Warner Bros music division and himself a musician. Umphrey’s McGee — The Mantis Monologues (Pony and Jaco)

Jambands.com:
We conclude our four-part series on Umphrey’s McGee as Jambands.com sits down with bassist Ryan Stasik. This feature presents a view from the band’s engine room after discussions with the dual guitarist/vocalists (Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss) and the keyboardist (Joel Cummins). Indeed, Stasik has some interesting comments both from the periphery and the inner workings of the group’s complex machinations, and he’s intensely honest about his role within the overall Umphrey’s framework. We follow Stasik’s dialogue section (again, our title for the series with its vision of singular monologues begs a bit of artistic license here) with a return to a conversation with Cinninger who began the series, and fittingly puts the final touches on its conclusion. Ray LaMontagne & Damien Rice — “To Love Somebody”
The Bee-Gees initially wrote “To Love Somebody” for Otis Redding to record in late 1967. Unfortunately Redding was killed in a plane crash before he could record the song and the Bee-Gees recorded it themselves, as have scores of other performers.
Frank Sinatra — Olympic Drinker
Just a cool pic of “The Chairman” here, sporting his USA Drinking Team jacket. Sinatra was coach of the team and proudly wore the warm up jacket, as displayed here in 1977. Wonder what’s in that cup?

Live in Paris, 1970.
Happy Birthday — Stevie Wonder
Little Stevie turns 59 today. Blind from birth, Stevie went on to be the darling of Motown from the age of the 13 to becoming an international funk and R&B superstar. Here’s a ripping version of his song “Superstition” from Sesame Street (!) circa 1974.
