Marvin Gaye was shot to death by his father on this date in 1984, the day before his 45th birthday. “What’s Going On” from 1972:

Happy Birthday, Matt

Good morning, Stew readers!  It’s Kelly here.  Just wanted to let you all know that today is Matt’s (AKA Mr. Musical Stew) birthday!  Yep, he was an April Fool’s baby.

There’s a quote about birthdays that I’ve always liked – “In the end, it’s not the years in your life, it’s the life in your years.” That definitely applies to Matt, who is someone who makes the most out of every single day.  Here’s a picture of Matt playing in the yard with our boy, Sam, one recent Saturday afternoon.

So here’s a song dedicated to my husband.

Phish — Burlington, VT (4/1/86)

85-1h123 years ago today, Phish played the only show of their career on April Fools Day. On that day, in Wilton, Connecticut, I turned 12. My parents threw me a surprise birthday party at Bobby Valentine’s Restaurant. In hindsight, I wish my folks would’ve taken the party to Hunt’s instead. Of course I was unaware of the band at the time, but man, that would’ve been one helluva birthday! I did get a signed baseball from Bobby Valentine though.
