From deep within Gamehenge come “The Lizards”.
R.I.P. — Kristy A. Manning (Trey Anastasio’s sister)
Sad news from the Phish camp, Trey’s sister, Kristy Manning has passed after battling cancer. She had managed Trey’s “Seven Below” project at The Barn. Phish.com:
Earlier this afternoon, Kristy Manning, Trey’s sister, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She was one of Phish’s first fans and biggest supporters. In recent years, Kristy helped form and lead Trey’s non-profit endeavor, The Seven Below Arts Initiative.
Kristy was a loving sister, mother, daughter, friend, and a role model for all. Her positive attitude, strength of character and continued outpouring of love and support left a profound impact on everyone she knew.
She will truly be missed.
Our hearts go out to the Anastasio’s and the extended Phish family.
Wilco — (The Album)
From Jambands.com:
Wilco’s next release will simply be titled Wilco (The Album). The eponymous title is an apparent nod to the new composition “Wilco The Song” that the group played on The Colbert Report a few months back. The number is also the first track on Wilco’s new album, which is due in stores this June. Other confirmed tracks include: “Deeper Down,” “One Wing,” “Bull Black Nova,” “You and I,” “You Never Know,” “Country Disappeared,” “Solitaire,” “I’ll Fight,” “Sunny Feeling” and “Everlasting.”

Jerry Garcia — 1982 Interview
Fascinating interview here with Jer’ from 1982. The man had been in the good ole Grateful Dead 17 years at this point and is fine form here. Click here to listen.
How Obama resurrected The Dead
AP:
LOS ANGELES – He’s still got a little work to do on the economy, but already President Barack Obama has accomplished at least one task that had appeared all but impossible just a year ago: He’s put The Dead back on the road.
As the core surviving members of the Grateful Dead, once the world’s biggest concert draw, barrel across the country for the first time in five years, bass player Phil Lesh says they have Obama, and also Lesh’s youngest son, Brian, to thank.(more…)

Polyphonic Spree — “It’s The Sun”
SMILE! I haven’t thought about this song in several years.
Ever have one of those days?
Today was one of those days that just flat out sucked! I won’t bore you with the details, but it blew big time. And I’m almost always a “cup-is-half-full” kind of guy. Anyway, it leads me to ask the question, what’s a good cheer-up song? Or a go to song for when you have a bad day or are feeling blue? Bob Marley’s “Kaya” can almost always bring a smile to my face. “Y.E.M.”, “Franklin’s Tower”, Robert Randolph’s “Press On”, Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day”, the Talking Heads’ “Naive Melody” are amongst many others. What are yours? I’d love to hear your personal favorites. Let me know!
Phish — 4/15/94 (Fifteen Years Later)
Great piece written by Scott Bernstein of Hidden Track fame commemorating his first Phish experience:
Fifteen years ago today I experienced one of the most life changing events of my existence on this planet. On April 15, 1994, I went to the Beacon Theater to see a quartet from Vermont. Little did I know that I’d spend the next ten years following Phish to the ends of the earth, and wind up meeting nearly all of my best friends through a mutual love of the little band that could. Beatle George gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
AP:
LOS ANGELES – Hundreds of fans and friends including Paul McCartney have turned out to see a posthumous star for George Harrison unveiled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The late Beatle’s star was unveiled Tuesday in front of the Capitol Records building as McCartney, one of only two surviving members of the band, looked on. McCartney also offered a shout-out to hundreds of raucous fans, thanking them for showing up.
Also present were Harrison’s widow Olivia, his son Dhani, musicians Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne and actor Tom Hanks.
Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001 at age 58.

Phil Spector — GUILTY!!!
Well it’s finally happened. Old Phil has finally been found guilty of the 2003 murder of Lana Clarkson. If you’ve ever read anything about this guy’s past, it’s not that surprising. From pulling a gun on John Lennon to attempting to kill his wife back in the 70′s, the guy hasn’t really been “all there” for quite some time. Click here to check out a post of ours about Phil and his “Wall Of Sound”. AP:
LOS ANGELES – Rock music producer Phil Spector was convicted Monday of second-degree murder in the shooting death of a film actress at his mansion six years ago, a verdict that will send him to prison for at least 18 years barring a successful appeal.
A Superior Court jury returned the verdict after about 30 hours of deliberations. The jury had the option of choosing involuntary manslaughter, but did not do so.
The panel also found Spector guilty of using a firearm in committing a crime.
Spector exhibited no reaction to the verdict. His attorney argued that he should remain free on bail pending the May 29 sentencing, but Judge Larry Paul Fidler remanded him to jail immediately.
Second-degree murder carries a penalty of 15 years to life in prison. The use-of-a-gun enhancement adds three, four or 10 years in prison, according to the district attorney’s office. (more….)
R.I.P. — Mark “The Bird” Fidrych (1954-2009)
Sadly, one of baseball’s most colorful characters and personalities of the 1970′s, pitcher Mark Fidrych, passed today at his home in Northborough, MA. Fidrych was a primarily remembered for his rookie season superstardom as a Detroit Tiger in 1976, winning “Rookie Of The Year” honors and becoming known for his antics on and off the field. His career was cut short and plagued with injuries. “Fiddy” was only 54 years old.
