Allman Brothers Band — Beacon Run
The Allman Brothers Band has kicked off their 40th Anniversary run at The Beacon Theater. We have heard some pretty firm rumors about various special guests who will be playing with the band during this run, but can’t really divulge the info. But stay tuned, because it would seem that things are about to get very interesting. Setlist from last night:

Bobby McFerrin — ‘Round Midnight
When thinking of Bobby McFerrin, most people either think of The Cosby Show intro song or of the “feel good” staple, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”. Maybe watching Bobby emulate Miles Davis’ classic performance of the Thelonious Monk classic, “‘Round Midnight”, will change or alter a view opinions.

Ween — “Chocolate Town”
Here’s Ween performing “Chocolate Town” in Denver, CO. Hershey, PA was what I used to think of when I thought of Chocolate Town, but I now I think of the tenth track on Ween’s excellent Quebec album. I don’t think Hershey has the cojones to reclaim the title from Ween and certainly not from the mighty Boognish.
Phish — Hampton Run Review
An excellent, perhaps the best review we’ve seen of the Hampton extravaganza, written by Ace Cowboy at Hidden Track:
To accurately describe what it’s like having the popular rock band Phish back on the Hampton Coliseum stage, let me steal a quip from that lovable ol’ drunkard Arthur when he tells Linda about owning a yacht: “It doesn’t suck.”
This weekend was absolutely top-drawer, a once-in-a-lifetime gala event. This weekend was all about energy, and not in that typical hippie bullshit geodes and quartz kind of way; not “energy, brah.” This weekend was about everyone’s stories being interwoven with their own, connected (more…)
Phish — “Split Open and Melt”
I know we’ve been on Phish overload lately here at MSD, but can you blame us? Their six sets over the weekend gave us alot to be excited about. If you are a casual fan and not a completist, just wanting to download one of the shows to sample the goods, I personally feel that the second set of the last night (3/8) was the best offering of the entire weekend. You can download all of them here. I recently came across this excellent version of SOAMelt on YouTube. It was recorded the night before my 18th birthday, way the hell back in 1992. Trey starts up an incredible guitr solo at the 4:00 mark and doesn’t let up. Check it out:
