The Doors — “The End” from the Isle of Wight (1970)

1971-la-woman-sessions-22-edmund-teske1The Isle of Wight music festival was held August 26-30, 1970 and attracted 600,000 fans. The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane and The Who were the headliners. Hendrix was dead three weeks later and is the last filmed live performance by The Doors. Robbie Krieger of The Doors has commented on the band’s limp performance. Jim Morrison had a prison sentence stemming from his Miami “indecent” performance (March 1, 1969) hanging over his head. Of course Jimbo never served the sentence and died 10 months later in Paris. Here’s the band performing “The End”:

Sam and Dave — “Hold On, I’m Coming”

Elvis! Don't eat that microphone!!

Elvis! Don't eat that microphone!!

Elvis’ favorite “delicacy” was deep fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches prepared by his housekeeper, Pauline.  Mmmmm-mmmm! Perfect for achieving that highly desirable bloated, obese, “I-don’t-give-a-shit-anymore” look. Here’s the recipe:

Elvis Presley’s Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich

Amount  Measure       Ingredient — Preparation Method
——–  ————  ——————————–
1      small         ripe banana
2      slices        white bread
3      tablespoons   peanut butter
2      tablespoons   butter

In a small bowl, mash the banana with the back of a spoon. Toast the bread lightly.  Spread the peanut butter on one slice of toast and the mashed banana on the other. Fry the sandwich in melted butter until each side is golden brown. Cut diagonally and serve hot.

The Clifford Ball was the first of seven, two-day spectacles the band staged, including The Great Went a year later, followed by Lemonwheel in 1998. The Clifford Ball was held in Plattsburgh New York at a decommissioned air force base, where Phish played two marathon concerts. The band delivered a one-of-a-kind experience for concert goers, giving the military base a carnival-like atmosphere with rides, wandering jugglers and movies at night for campers.

The box set features nine hours of concert and event footage (with six complete sets of music recorded Live August 16 & 17, 1996 and bonus features including Phish’s extended soundcheck, its late night flatbed truck jam and a 30-minute featurette with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and more.
