My Morning Jacket — Jambase.com’s band of the year

mmjAfter touring the US, playing marathon show after marathon show and releasing Evil Urges, My Morning Jacket has been named “Band Of The Year” by Jambase.com.

“Music to me is really spiritual. In my brain, music is kind of everything. Music is the glue that holds life together,” says bandleader Jim James. “I’ve always been the kind of person that really believes in God or some kind of force, some kind of spirit, but I’ve never been able to put a name on it. So, to me, the most transcendental, beautifully religious moments I’ve ever had have been either listening to music with some close friends or playing music.”(more…)

R.I.P. — Delaney Bramlett (1939-2008)

Delaney & BonnieSadly, Delaney Bramlett passed on Saturday after complications from gall bladder surgery.  A songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Delaney was chiefly known for his partnership with his former wife, Bonnie Bramlett as Delaney And Bonnie. Opening for Clapton/Winwood supergroup, Blind Faith in 1969, Bramlett formed a unique mentorship with a “disenchanted with being a rock star” Eric Clapton, ultimately touring with Clapton in ’69-’70. Penning the early classic Clapton recording, “Let It Rain”, Bramlett’s folksy approach to writing and recording reflected his Mississippi upbringing. Here he is with Bonnie, Dave Mason of Traffic and Eric Clapton, performing “Poor Elijah” from 1969:
