Phish @ Bonnaroo
Okay folks, while the band has yet to confirm that they are in fact playing Manchester, Tennessee’s largest music festival, it seems that everyone is either blissfully happy about it or frothing at the mouth angry. Bob Lefsetz wrote about it here, Dean Budnick has written about it here, actually I could probably link 50 similar editorials that discuss the matter further. What remains is that Phish has yet to officially announce their intention. If they want to play Bonnaroo, they should be able to play Bonnaroo. They’ve paid their dues and can do what they want. If you don’t like it, stay at home and bitch about it to someone that cares. Let’s all just be happy that something that has made us all happy in the past will be returning so very soon.
When You’re Strange
As first tipped here in May, the Doors documentary “When You’re Strange” will premiere Jan. 17 at the Sundance Film Festival.
Written and directed by Tom DiCillo, “Strange” utilizes a wealth of previously unseen footage to chart the band’s beginnings at UCLA’s film school through to frontman Jim Morrison’s mysterious death in 1971.
Describing the movie to Billboard earlier this year, Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek said it was “the anti-Oliver Stone,” in reference to the 1991 film “The Doors.” “This will be the true story of the Doors.”
Rhino will release a soundtrack to “When You’re Strange” next summer.

Crosby & Nash — Guinnevere
Haunting song here, performed 9/11/70 and taken from Crosby, Stills & Nash’s eponymous 1969 album. David Crosby’s take on the song:
“That is a very unusual song, it’s in a very strange tuning with strange time signatures. It’s about three women that I loved. One of whom was Christine Hinton, the girl who got killed who was my girlfriend, and one of whom was Joni Mitchell and the other one is somebody that I can’t tell. It might be my best song.”
