Kanye West — “I am the voice of this generation”
Rapper, Bonnaroo-hater, full-time douche Kanye West has made some outlandish claims in the past, but this may take the cake. Presley->Dylan->Lennon->Young->Bono->Vedder->Kanye West???? Yahoo.com:
LONDON – Kanye West is to music what Michael Jordan was to basketball — at least that’s what West thinks, in his humble estimation.
“I realize that my place and position in history is that I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest voice,” he said in an interview on Wednesday. “It’s me settling into that position of just really accepting that it’s one thing to say you want to do it and it’s another thing to really end up being like Michael Jordan.”
The Grammy-winning rapper-producer said Justin Timberlake had a chance to be music’s MVP, but hasn’t put out enough material. (Timberlake’s last album was in 2006, while West released a CD last year and is releasing his latest — “808s and Heartbreak” — on Nov. 24.) (more…)
Phish — All Around This World…
Check out Hidden Track’s article on the many locations of Phish shows through the years.
One of the the things I miss most about Phish is summer tour. In addition to the music, summer tour always provided an opportunity to see parts of the country I never would have if not for the concerts. Just take a few days off from work, hop in the car and the hit the road. Next thing you know you are in the middle of nowhere with 15,000 other fans at 4 pm on a Wednesday drinking a Sierra Nevada. Bob Dylan & George Harrison — “If Not For You”
How about a double dose of Dylan today? I didn’t think there would be any protests. Here we have an outtake from George Harrison’s Concert For Bangladesh (1971). Here the two duet on Dylan’s classic “If Not For You”. The song was originally on Dylan’s 1970 album New Morning. It seems George Harrison was quite fond of the song and he recorded it for his excellent first post-Beatles album All Things Must Pass.
Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, etc. — “My Back Pages”
Here’s a clip of the rehearsals for Dylan’s 30th anniversary in 1992, “My Back Pages”. Check out the amazing collection of living legends: Dylan, Clapton, Harrison, Petty, Young, Roger McGuinn along with Eddie Vedder, GE Smith, Steve Cropper all assembled on stage.
“A self-ordained professor’s tongue
Too serious to fool
Spouted out that liberty
Is just equality in school
“Equality,” I spoke the word
As if a wedding vow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I’m younger than that now.”
Did You Know??
Neil Young and Jimi Hendrix stole a truck to get to Woodstock in time to perform.
They Said What?
From the “Private Dancer” herself, Ms. Tina Turner:
“I’d like to see Christ come back and crush the spirit of hate and make men put down their guns. I’d also like another hit single.”
As a bonus, here’s a top rate version of her and Ike with “Proud Mary”:

Phish — Funky Bitch Download
Smoking version with Jimmy Herring from the upcoming “At The Roxy” release.
As previously reported, the latest archival release of the Phish camp captures the group’s three-night run at Atlanta’s Roxy Theatre from February 19-21, 1993. Though the group has released many shows in the past decade, the eight-CD box set is actually the first complete multiple-show release since Hampton Comes Alive and the 1998 Island Tour box set. In addition to choice versions of many Phish classics like “You Enjoy Myself,” “Fluffhead” and “Mike’s Song,” the set also features appearances by local heroes Jimmy Herring and Rev. Jeff Mosier, a humorous version of Kiss’ “Rock And Roll All Nite” and no less than three “Hold Your Head Up” Jon Fishman routines.
Like many performances from this era, Phish’s 1993 Atlanta run boasts both a “Big Ball Jam” and a “Vibration Of Life” segment. Other left field selections include “Have Mercy,” “All Things Reconsidered,” “Esther” and Jon Fishman’s rendition of “Memories.”
In celebration of the album’s release, Relix has posted a version of “Funky Bitch” from the box set for download on Relix.com. The track also featuring Jimmy Herring, who is profiled in the December/January issue of Relix.

From Jambands.com:
moe. transformed Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City into a giant scene from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Fatcory.” The show began with Al Schnier and Rob Derhak serenading the crowd from the third balcony with an acoustic wireless version of “Candy Man” from the Willy Wonka soundtrack. “Pure Imagination” and “Oompa Loompa” were the recurring themes of the night, popping up in various songs. Not only was there a touching wedding proposal at set break, but the house lights were kept off to during the intermission to maintain the cozy vibe. The performance also received a favorable review by Ann Powers of the New York Times, who called the show “amply spectacular.” Powers concluded the review by complimenting the entire genre. “‘Jam band’ music may be the only regular source of spontaneity in pop right now,” said Powers. “The uninitiated might be daunted by the prospect of enduring unfamiliar 20-minute songs, but open ears will be refreshed by it.” (Continue reading…)
Benevento Trio with Mathis & Fishman — Hartford, CT (11/8/2008)
Sometime in the last two years—there’s no exact date, but the shows that birthed Live at Tonic
are probably a good place to start the discussion—Marco Benevento became a brand unto himself. Given the number of hats he wears, who’s to say what group, configuration or collaboration is his number one priority—and does he have to have just one?—but we’re past the point where any of Benevento’s eponymous groups is a mere Benevento-Russo Duo side project. That “B” in “Marco B”? Could just as easily stand for “bandleader,” dude. (more…)

Roger Daltrey — Remembering Moon
Roger Daltrey doesn’t obsess much about the past, he says. The Who frontman won’t even look at recently unearthed 35mm movie footage of the band’s epic performance at Kilburn in 1977, now set for DVD release on November 18th. “I haven’t seen it, and I never will,” says Daltrey. “I don’t look back. What’s done is done. Maybe when I’m old and laying at home with Alzheimer’s, I’ll go ‘Well, this is a very interesting band …’ (more…)
Led Zeppelin — Zep minus Plant = success?
Of course I’d love to see a full on Zeppelin show, but could it/would it capture the magic and mystique of Zeppelin in all of their 1970′s glory and power? I think Robert is right on this one.
Rolling Stone:
Last year’s Led Zeppelin reunion concert wasn’t the end for Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham — but it looks like it was for Robert Plant. The three musicians have been holding rehearsals with singers including Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler (it didn’t go well, one source has heard) and possibly Myles Kennedy, lead singer of Alter Bridge (who has covered Zep songs onstage and has a formidable vocal range). But Page wants to make one thing clear about the new project. “Whatever this is, it is not Led Zeppelin,” says a rep for Page’s management company, QPrime. “Not without the involvement of Robert Plant.” (more…)
