Musical Stew Daily — Sign Up For Our Newsletter!

Hi folks out there. We’d like to thank all of you for tuning in, turning on and, well, checking out our site.  It’s been a blast and we are thoroughly enjoying executing our mission to spread good music, provide our readers with cool videos/downloads and keeping you updated with music news as it happens.

We will soon be celebrating our 90,000 hit and, while that’s peanuts to some folks, that’s pretty amazing to us. With this growth, we have some exciting new plans to carry out in the very near future. First, our friend Sev Martin designed the MSD logo (pictured above).  You’ll see this incorporated into the new blog design which will go live soon.  Second, we will be launching an e-newsletter that will include artist spotlights, giveaways and other cool info.  It’s totally free and will be well worth the couple of seconds it takes to sign up here. Third, we will offer a podcast series – a sonic musical tapestry stitched by the nimble fingers of the MSD team.

Factor that in with all of the free downloads we offer at MSD and you’ll be flush with great music for nothing.

That being said, we are very thankful for you, our readers, for checking us out!  We’ll keep this thing going as long as you keep coming back.  Tell your friends…and drop us a line to let us know what you’d like to see on the blog.

Grateful Dead — Aoxomoxoa Outtakes

Outtakes from the Grateful Dead’s 1969 release, Aoxomoxoa. Originally titled, Earthquake County, this was the band’s most ambitious and costly production to date. Costing roughly $180,000, this put the band in deep debt to Joe Smith and Warner Brothers.

Phish — The Dark Side Of Phish — Salt Lake, UT (11/2/1998)

Ten Years Ago Today.

This show represents one of the many reasons why I love Phish. Two days after covering The Velvet Underground’s Loaded, Phish decides (legend says around dinner time) to scrounge up a copy of Pink Floyd’s classic, Dark Side Of The Moon, quickly reacquaint themselves with it and then perform it in its entirety in the second set of that night’s show. Here’s the result:

Set I: Tube1> Drowned> Jesus Just Left Chicago, Driver, Bittersweet Motel, Limb By Limb, Wading in the Velvet Sea, Sample in a Jar
Set II: Down With Disease, The Mango Song, The Moma Dance, You Enjoy Myself, Harpua> Speak to Me/Breathe in the Air> On the Run> Time> The Great Gig in the Sky> Money> Us and Them> Any Colour You Like> Brain Damage> Eclipse> Harpua
Encore: Smells Like Teen Spirit
