Little Feat — Join The Band

The new release from 429 records is Little Feat’s “Join The Band“. Produced by Jimmy Buffet, this is an album that has an amazing assortment of guest stars playing with Little Feat, featuring: Dave Matthews, Mike Gordon, Jimmy Buffet, Vince Gill, Chris Robinson, Bela Fleck, Bob Seger (deep breath) Emmylou Harris, Sam Bush, Brooks & Dunn and Sonny Landreth. Most of the ‘Feat’s crowd pleasers are here, along with The Band’s,”The Weight” and Woody Guthrie’s, “This Land Is Your Land”. After a couple of listens, there are certainly songs that jump out at you more than others. A fine example of this is Emmylou Harris, Sam Bush and Bela Fleck’s take on “Sailin’ Shoes”. A few more of the standouts are Mike Gordon’s guesting on “This Land Is Your Land” and Bela Fleck’s on “The Weight”. My only complaint is longing for a grittier vocal take on “Dixie Chicken”.

The album is flawlessly produced and couldn’t have been possible without Little Feat’s amazing prowess as a powerhouse groove machine, good time band. Perfect execution and clean, sharp chops on top of a bouncy rhythym section make this a highly recommended album. I just wish that I had it earlier in the summer, as it is perfect beach music. Slightly Stoopid — Wiseman

From Wiki:

Slightly Stoopid is an American band based in Ocean Beach, California, who describe their music as “a fusion of acoustic rock and blues with reggae, hip-hop, and punk“. The band was originally signed by Bradley Nowell from the band Sublime to his label Skunk Records while still in high school.

Light My Fire — Who Does It Better?

“Light My Fire”, the legendary song penned by Doors guitarist, Robbie Krieger is spotlighted here. Krieger based his guitar solo and Ray Manzarek’s organ solo on John Coltrane’s interpretation of “My Favorite Things”. The Doors performed the song on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1967, bringing Jim Morrison’s leather clad demon being into American households for the first time on prime time television. Morrison was asked to alter the lyrics, “girl we couldn’t get much higher”. Morrison chose not to, much to Sullivan’s chagrin. After the performance, the Doors were told that they would never do Sullivan again. Allegedly Morrison chortled, “Man, we just DID Ed Sullivan.” Light My Fire was released on their eponymous debut and went on to become a #1 hit for the Doors, proving to be their signature song. Morrison grew to resent the song and supposedly tired of performing the song in concert. Nontheless, they knew where their bread was buttered and they performed the song at every concert from 1967 until their last concert in late 1970.

Led Zeppelin — A Trio?

From the BBC:

Led Zeppelin musicians Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham have been working on new material.

Drummer Bonham told a radio station in Detroit that the songs could be destined for a new Led Zeppelin album.

Writing new material has been “on the cards” since the band’s one-off reunion show in London last December, he told 94.7 WCSX.

But lead singer Robert Plant has not been involved in any of the sessions, he added.

‘Phenomenal thing’

“At the moment, all I know is I have the great pleasure to go and jam with the two guys and start work on some material,” he said.

“When I get there [in the studio] I never ask any questions. If I get a phone call to go and play, I enjoy every moment of it.

“Whatever it ends up as, to ever get a chance to jam with two people like that, it is a phenomenal thing for me. It’s my life. It’s what I’ve dreamed about doing.”

He added: “Lots of politics [would need to] get ironed out [before an album could be made].”

Led Zeppelin played their first concert in 19 years, in front of nearly 20,000 fans, at London’s 02 arena in December.

Their two-hour set opened with Good Times Bad Times – the first track of their debut album.

Original band members Page, Plant and Jones were joined on stage by Jason Bonham – the son of their late drummer John.
