Phish on 10/31/1994:
Jake Shimabukuro:
Tom Petty, Prince, Jeff Lynne, etc.:
Sir Paul & Eric Clapton:
George Harrison (of course I know its his song!):
George wrote this song by deciding he was going to write a song based on the first words he saw in a random book. The words happened to be, “gently weeps” and it just kind of took off from there. He recorded an acoustic version with an additional stanza and played it for rest of The Beatles. There was immediate interest amongst John, Paul & Ringo to record it. Eric Clapton was asked to play a “mournful” lead guitar on the solo and it appeared on The White Album.

RIP — Skip Caray
Although we at MSD are 99% music content, we actually have other interests too! One of those is baseball. We were saddened to hear of Skip Caray‘s passing over the weekend. Skip had been an Atlanta Braves broadcaster since 1976. My dad and I met Skip at a Braves spring training game in 1988. His father, Harry, was ill at that time. Although he wasn’t overly friendly in that meeting, he was the voice of my favorite professional sports franchise, The Atlanta Braves, from my youth until now. Rest In Peace, Skip.
(Note: I remember how Skip loved to say, “Here we are, at the bottom of another fifth.” Merging his love of baseball and the sauce.)
Some of his quotes:
A lotta room in right-center, if he hits one there we can dance in the streets. The 2-1. Swung, line drive left field! One run is in! Here comes Bream! Here’s the throw to the plate! He is…safe! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win!…Braves win! They may have to hospitalize Sid Bream; he’s down at the bottom of a huge pile at the plate. They help him to his feet. Frank Cabrera got the game winner! The Atlanta Braves are National League champions again! This crowd is going berserk, listen!
Mark gets the sign, the wind and the pitch here it is… swung, fly ball deep left center, Grissom on the run… Yes! Yes! Yes! The Atlanta Braves have given you a championship! Listen to this crowd! A mob scene on the field. Wohlers gets ‘em one, two, three. A couple of fans rushing on the field. The Atlanta Braves have brought the first championship to Atlanta!
