Trey Anastasio Remembers Philadelphia Spectrum
Trey Anastasio added to the memories on the Remember the Spectrum site.
Musician Trey Anastasio of Phish on Remembering the Spectrum:
“I grew up in central NJ and Philadelphia was my home-away-from-home. I have vivid memories of the Spectrum and will miss it deeply. I saw my first arena rock and roll show there – (Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon) and saw my first Stanley Cup game there (Flyers/Sabres). I was also fortunate to have the opportunity to perform there a dozen or so times as a member of Phish. Those shows were as exciting and memorable for me as any I ever performed. I just loved everything about the place. The folks who own the Spectrum extended numerous invitations for us to play in the Wachovia Center, but I said I didn’t want to leave the Spectrum until the Flyers won the Cup again. I guess now I’ll have to reconsider – assuming, of course, that I’m ever invited back! Rest in Peace, Spectrum.”
Phish playing The Spectrum on Dec. 2, 1997.
The audience at the Dec. 11, 1999 Phish show was witness to one of the only “Harry Hood” show openers.

Grateful Dead — Peggy-O
Wow. Ole Jer sure was a soulful singer. Exhibit A:
Little Feat — Dixie Chicken
Rainbow Theatre
London, 1977
Check out that slide guitar. Lowell George was the man!
Elton John — Levon
One of our favorite Elton John songs. How did he go from this to that Lion King crap?
Delaney, Bonnie, Clapton, Mason & Friends
Poor Elijah — Delaney & Friends with Clapton & Dave Mason
In Clapton’s new book he says that Delaney Bramlett taught him all needed to know about singing and that he actually preferred playing with Delaney & Bonnie over Blind Faith. You can tell from this clip that they sure did have a LOT of fun.
Umphrey’s Mcgee
Umphrey’s McGee — Glory on the 4th of July
Happy belated 4th! Enjoy the fireworks.
Playing Glory, The Star Spangled Banner and the end of Ringo.
Cash, Clapton & Perkins
Eric Clapton & Johnny Cash & Carl Perkins
Matchbook
The Johnny Cash Show circa 1969. I bet those three could tell some stories.
Peter Tosh & Mick Jagger
Words cannot express how much more I prefer this pairing to Ebony & Ivory by Paul McCartney & Little Stevie Wonder. Both are better than Sir Paul and Michael Jackson’s, Say Say Say.
Stephen Stills Manassas Band — It Doesn’t Matter
I have often wondered why this Stephen Stills album doesn’t rank on more critics “best-of” lists. To me, Manassas was one of the ten best albums of the 1970′s. Are you looking for an album that incorporates rock, county, blues and folk music? Well, Manassas might just be what you’re looking for.
Enjoy the following cut from 1972..
Dizzy Gillespie & Charlie Parker
Legendary pairing recorded from over 50 years ago available for download.
ENJOY!!!
The Beatles — They’re On The Bloody Rooftop!
Imagine coming out of your office in the middle of the workday and lo and behold, The Beatles are playing on the roof. Ho hum. It’s just The Beatles.

Cat Stevens
Cat Stevens has always been good beach, deck or beer after mowing the lawn music. Here’s an entire show from May 6, 1976.
Rick, Janis & Jerry
Rick Danko (The Band), Janis Joplin, Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead)
Imagine riding across the Canadian countryside in 1970 with your favorite bands. Well, this DVD, Festival Express, captures the excitement, the camraderie and logistical limitations that existed on this run of shows. The lineup included The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Buddy Guy, The Band, Traffic, Delaney & Bonnie, etc., etc. Sadly, Joplin was not long for this earth and left our planet shortly after the completion of the short run. Apparently the booze ran freely and judging by the following clip, all imbibed.
Enjoy this clip that illustrates the fraternity that the music business used to and should be.
Hef and Jerry: Pepsi Swigger & Captain Trips
In 1969, the Grateful Dead visited the set of Hugh Hefner’s Playboy After Dark. After some awkward breeze shooting, Jerry ambled on stage and played a very moving, very soulful Mountains Of The Moon.
Rock Scully had some funny memories and insight to this most unusual culture clash. Its detailed in Living With The Dead. Be careful with that coffee!
Umphrey’s McGee
Here are the boys from Chi-town performing Professor Wormbog in ’02. If I didn’t know better, I’d say Brendan Bayliss was 12 in this video.
Phish: 4/3/1998 (Nassau Coliseum)
This is the second night of an impromptu four show run that started on 4/2/1998. Nicknamed the Island Tour because it started at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York (Long Island) and concluded at the Providence Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
Hard to beat these guys when they are playing like this. Amazing show…

Really miss these guys. They were the epitome of a traveling carnival. Hula-hoops, electric mandolin, jellyfish, skillful acoustic guitar picking, group hoots, glow-rings, blissed out bluegrass and good times. They were the String Cheese Incident.
